Lunar Rainbow Tour
About the Adventure
Witness one of the world's rarest natural phenomena with a guided night tour of Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe to see the spectacular Lunar Rainbow, or "moonbow." This ethereal event occurs when the brilliant light of a full moon refracts through the immense mist and spray of Victoria Falls, transforming the "Smoke That Thunders" into a shimmering, silver-lit spectacle after dark. While the naked eye perceives this rare night rainbow as a soft, ghostly white arc, a camera set to a long exposure (10-30 seconds) will capture it blooming into a vibrant, full-color spectrum. The rainforest park opens specially for only three nights each month—the night before, the night of, and the night after the full moon—offering a highly exclusive window to experience this natural wonder. To capture this bucket-list sight, photographers are highly encouraged to bring a tripod and a waterproof cover to protect camera gear from the heavy, localized falls spray.

Good to Know
- When: Only the night before, of, and after each full moon. Best months are June–August (clear skies + good spray). Sept–early Dec has reduced spray (Zambian side closes; limited Zimbabwe-side viewing). Check full-moon dates before planning.
- Tour times: Winter ~6:00–7:30pm; summer ~7:00–8:00pm, depending on the date.
- What to bring: A torch (used sparingly), rain layer (there's still spray), grippy shoes, a warm jacket in winter, and — for photographers — a camera with a tripod and manual settings.
- Plan around it: If seeing a moonbow matters to you, time your whole Victoria Falls visit to the full moon.
